• Why:
• g++ wants UNIX
• user friendly and free (as in beer and speech),
• light (cheap), tinkerer's OS.
• Some exercises and instructions explicitly use Linux, (and of course GCC/g++)

Notes:

MacOS likely UNIX enough for most exercises

but GCC not supported (yet) on Arm64 CPU.

User friendly != newbie friendly

Ease of installation of software

Many ‘distributions’ (kernel + software).

We use Debian, but advise Ubuntu, which is less harsh in daily use.
