I'm 33 years old, living in Meppel, the Netherlands. I work as a meteorologist / oceanographer at ARGOSS since February 2005.
May 11, 2005: My Ph.D. defense was on monday May 9, 2005, and all went well! You can find the thesis here.
Feb 2004: My first paper has finally been accepted by Journal of Physical Oceanography, and is scheduled for publication in April 2004. I'm currently working on a paper about the work done in Hawaii, and a third paper on El Niño behaviour in a warming climate.
May 2003: Recently returned from a half year visit to the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. With some added suntan, a lot of impressions of a gorgeous island and several new work experiences, I've returned to work on the final 1.5 years of my PhD project. I'm currently finishing a revision of my first paper, after that the work done in Hawaii will be written down.
May 2000: I obtained my masters degree in Technical Physics at the KVI (Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut, or Nuclear Accelerator Institute) of the university of Groningen. I worked for the proton therapy group, which is doing research on volume effects in organs that are irradiated with a proton beam. The goal of the research was to improve cancer treatment methods by reducing the chance that healthy organs that are located next to a tumor stop functioning.
