  Abstract 0175
Minganti, Franco (1996), "I Beatles "americani" della BBC." [The "American" Beatles of the BBC.] In: Rossana Dalmonte (ed.), Analisi e canzoni. Trento: Dipartimento di Scienze Filologiche e Storiche, Università degli Studi di Trento, 1996, 235-254.

Among other recordings, The Beatles Live at the BBC, a recently issued double CD, offers the opportunity to listen to the early Beatles covering lots of American rock'n'roll songs. This essay parallels such "Americanized" Beatles, as seen in the context of a late 1950s "modernizing" Great Britain anxiously facing "Americanization," and their distinctive "Britishness," still tinged with evident American musical hues, once they crossed the Atlantic Ocean and "invaded," the U.S.A. from the tv screens of the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Some of the different elements of Beatlemania in the two countries are cross-examined, including instances of gender and musical perception.
